MY APPROACH TO THERAPY

As seen on a Sussex Directories Inc siteI provide individual, couple, family and group therapy to adults and older adolescents (ages 16 and over). I prefer to incorporate various therapy approaches and techniques, tailoring them to the specific needs and belief system of each client. My style is also collaborative and flexible. I believe that this way of practicing is most useful because it allows each client to follow his or her unique therapeutic journey.

I offer a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can feel comfortable enough to talk about the most intimate and painful realities in their lives knowing that I will be there to support them. As a culturally competent therapist, my skills include the ability to see and respect the whole person, and to integrate social and cultural perspectives as they pertain to the individual.

Therapy is based on a strong relationship between the client and the therapist. This relationship gives clients the ability to make changes in their lives as they go through a process of discovery, growth and meaningful change. Through the therapeutic process clients develop the ability to deal with stress, explore and change problematic patterns of behavior and increase self-awareness while striving to reach their full potential.

MY BACKGROUND

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with more than 16 years of clinical experience providing mental health services in various settings. I have worked in outpatient settings including general and psychiatric hospitals, community health centers and community mental health centers. I have also worked in inpatient settings including correctional institution settings (juvenile and adult), dual diagnosis/MICA, and a psychiatric hospital. I specialize in treating older adolescents and adults who are experiencing problems with anxiety, trauma, depression, stress and relationship problems.

I attended Morgan State University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. After two years of working in the field I recognized a need for psychologists of color and went on to obtain a Masters of Arts degree and my Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University/American School of Professional Psychology/D.C.
